3 Things To Ask Yourself When Shopping For Mobile Storage Solutions

Storage container solutions

You know what it means to move mountains. In your business, you’ve probably moved 7 or 8 by now. But you’re growing every day, and asset protection is becoming more important than ever. If you’re in the business of moving high volume cargo, its important that you look into effective mobile storage solutions. The kinds of containers that hold your inventory make 200 million trips a year on average, so you want to make sure the mobile storage solutions you’re investing are reliable and durable. When shopping for mobile storage solutions, keep this list of questions in mind:
1. How is this storage container traveling?
Your ideal freight solutions are going to be different depending on whether you’re traveling by rail, truck, plane, or ship. To make things even more complicated, yours could be some of the 25 million containers shipped annually that use intermodal transportation–AKA, a combination of all four! Understanding how your stuff gets from point A to point B will help you make a wiser selection on what kinds of industrial shipping containers to choose.
2. What is being shipped exactly?
You may be thinking “This question is asinine, I know my inventory!” And we’re sure you do. But is it all the same? Do you ship different kinds of grains, for instance, and if so, can you guarantee no cross-contamination? Do your shipping containers need to be air tight? Do they need to be distinctive to prevent mislabeling or mishandling? These are all systems-level things to keep in the back of your head when cargo shopping.
3. Are my mobile storage solutions “X” proof?
By this we mean, are they water proof, rat proof, light proof, theft proof–any other kind of proof you can think of. At the end of the day, you’re putting your money, basically, in a tin can and sending it floating across the ocean. Any secondary protection you can afford on the storage end is probably wise.
If we’ve forgotten anything, please don’t hesitate to castigate us in the comments. We’d also love to hear your favorite storage solutions.
